Tesla Model S electric sedan pricing and options announced, starts at $57,400

Tesla Motors has announced final pricing and option details for its much-anticipated Model S electric sedan. The battery-powered vehicle, which follows the original sold-out Tesla Roadster, will come in four different varieties:

In addition to the extra range, the bigger batteries also bring quicker acceleration: the entry model will go from zero to 60 in 6.5 seconds, but the Performance model clocks the same in just 4.4 seconds.

The cars will be built in Fremont, California, and also feature a 17-inch touchscreen built into the dash. While they do qualify for a Federal tax credit of $7,500, these are still premium vehicles — but that hasn't stopped prospective buyers from getting in line. Tesla told Businessweek that next year's production run is already sold out. If you're curious, the company has posted a detailed list of specifications and options. The sedans are expected to be delivered by fall of 2012.
